Do I need to own my home?

No. Both renters and homeowners may be able to foster, provided the home is stable, secure and suitable.

Can I foster if I work?

Potentially, yes. Origins will discuss your working hours, flexibility and the type of fostering that may suit your circumstances.

Do I need a spare bedroom?

A foster child will generally need a suitable bedroom of their own. Origins can talk through the requirements with you.

Can I foster if I am single?

Yes. Origins welcomes enquiries from single applicants as well as couples.

Do I need to already have children?

No. People with and without parenting experience can become foster carers.

How long does the process take?

The full training, assessment and approval process usually takes several months and can vary depending on individual circumstances.

Is financial support available?

Foster carers receive an allowance to help meet the costs associated with caring for a child. Origins can explain the current arrangements during your conversation.
